Challenges

Challenges

Because eBusiness is relatively young it faces numerous challenges. Here’s a short version on those challenges

Culture

When you replace the way people work and the daily processes they go through you are bound to get resistance. The resistance is building on lack of trust while doing online business. No papers to hold, no physical contact with your clients and partners, and so on. Up on that, the legislation is not always as prepared on certain situations as it should be.

Legacy

‘Old’ systems and sources should be transformed into more advanced technologies. These processes mostly take a lot of time and therefore money. High costs The culture aspect and legacy make people think that switching to eBusiness is expensive. Although eBusiness is offered in many variances, the mindset on the costs is not very positive. Even so, eBusiness does require new skills and therefore new personnel or re-education of existing personnel, both creating an extra dent in your budgets.

Technique

eBusiness technology is hard to follow. It’s fast, it’s not always as transparent as it should be and it lacks a universal standard. Improvements on eBusiness tools follow each other rapidly and the day these improvements stop is far out of sight. In networked eBusiness interoperability is essential, but because of missing uni-versal standards, too few common practices in eBusiness and the will to use technology also as a competitive edge the true interoperability is missing.

Finances

There are also financial issues. It’s hard to find the right finances due to the many dot-com failures and the current crisis. There are also so many free services available that in many cases it is challenging to design a profitable busi-ness model.
